About our first event
Amazing group of women at the first SheGROWS event!
On March 17th, we hosted our very first SheGROWS event at Coffee Break in Groningen, and it was an unforgettable start to our journey! With this post, I want to share how it all began and what our events look like, hoping to inspire young women in the Netherlands to step out of their comfort zones and join us.
Bringing Women Together in Groningen
We chose Groningen because it’s home to so many talented, inspiring young women, yet there are few opportunities for them to come together outside of nightlife and traditional networking events. We knew there was a need for a place where these women could connect, share their stories, and inspire one another in a cute and supportive environment. We had met so many amazing girls and felt it was time to bring everyone together to create a community where we could all grow and thrive.
What We Did
The event featured two main activities focused on reflection and collaboration:
Reflect & share: We started with a simple exercise. Each participant was asked to reflect on a personal or professional achievement on a paper with printed questions. It was so insightful! Many of the girls mentioned how they never usually take the time to reflect in this way, and they really appreciated the opportunity to pause and think about their own growth. This helped everyone feel more connected with themselves, setting the tone and focus for the rest of the event.
Collaboration: For the second activity, we paired the girls and asked them to share what they’re good at and what they see as their weaknesses. Then, each pair brainstormed a project they could work on together to fill in each other's gaps—just like how Rianda and I work together! Rianda is fantastic at planning but not so keen on communication, while I enjoy communication but could use more structure in planning. It was incredible to see how quickly the pairs clicked, and the room buzzed with ideas and energy.
